Smarts and Heart #HandsOffProtest
It's Sunday morning after the #HandsOffProtest rally and I am so touched because for me my city is also the heart of what's happening right now and to live here full time means sometimes my city is flooded with the best folks every and it's such a vibe. To those of you who marched anywhere but especially here in my chosen home of Washington, thank you.
So I'm feeling inspired.
And so I threw this little ditty together for you this morning, notes last night, three passes to edit. I am a wicked fast writer. Fuck AI. My ideas will always be better.
#sundaymessage
I have a fucked up level of resilience. A lot of survivors do. When you escape the violence for good eventually that resilience morphs into love, a love so big and so warm and so strong that it feels like you could fill the whole world, every cup. Spoiler alert: it was always love, thats why they were so attracted to you. But even before the strife, I was born with a naturally positive, energetic attitude. I have my moon (mind) opposite Jupiter (blessings, luck and big stuff) just beaming all those good vibes directly into my aura. Find Jupiter in your chart. That is your superpower. So I’m here today to offer a message of hope, one that I know I can sustain. A message we need. Emotional discipline and intelligence is essential to the success for this world. It will sustain movements and change minds. Smarts and heart, that’s what we need to win.
I was 17 and sad at the lake with friends, contemplating my future the summer before my senior year. As I walked back into the tight condo crowded with members of my church youth group and full of sound our hostess took me by the shoulder and in her other hand she held my hair. It was thick, it was blonde and it fell to my waist. I wore it out and free and after a day of swimming in the sun it was perfection.
“You know,” she said, “Your name is Shamaine because you have the roar of the lion in you and this is your mane.” She squeezed my hair and gave it a gentle toss. I’m not sure what she said after that but she saw me. I think I was sad that day because all around me it felt like my peers had plans, had a way out, had parents who gave a damn, like the parent standing before me in that moment. I was grateful she saw me but too torn to respond in kind.
If you’re a lion, love is essential. The Leo without love is what we have now. That is exactly what we have. The current president is a Leo rising. When the Leo ability to have the courage to be vulnerable enough to reach out for connection is lost we get what we got now. In the meantime, every planet that waltzes through Leo for the next 20ish years is going to get a major transformation thanks to Pluto posting up in Aquarius, directly opposite Leo. Pluto is the slowest moving planet. Pluto is the planet of transformation and it rules Scorpio. This is a call to action to take our love down a different path, to love differently, to love ourselves, our neighbors, our families, our communities and our planet in a fashion that is sustainable, accessible and tough. Often, love is saying no. From now on we meet the predator at that gate. No more passes. Peace is the way. Protect the peace. To protect the peace we must empower the people.
Love is sustainable.
Love is sustainable because sustainability requires diversity, and diversity is all around us. Diversity is the way. Love is sustainable because sustainability requires a healthy environment and so do we. Environments are emotional, physical and spiritual.
Love is accessible.
Love is access. Access to resources, and opportunities. These things will never look the same in a world as diverse as our planet, but it is how things work. When we get what we need the key is gratitude even if things don’t look the same. It’s about what we need and desire not what the other person needs or desires. The key is building a way of being that allows for different ways of being. It’s time to stop staring at others wondering what they might have and start sharing what is all around us and that includes responsibility for how we treat ourselves, one another and the world. This means small violations like littering or cursing strangers is no longer acceptable. Respect for others is respect for self. We all deserve the ability to access safe public spaces, spaces that are safe in every way.
Love is tough.
Love is tough because sometimes love is saying no. Love is tough because true love of any kind requires emotional regulation and the ability to be present with others during uncomfortable situations and emotional regulation requires a fuck ton of discipline (and self-awareness and let’s be honest, exercise). As they say, this “work”? Is not for the faint of heart. It is the most vulnerable and thrilled you will ever feel. Vulnerable because obviously, and thrilled because you’re showing up and there’s no greater feeling than getting to be all of you with the ones you love. It’s called being seen and it will free you from shame.
